MCC's Clinical Medical Assisting Program

In the Clinical Medical Assisting hybrid online/on-campus program, you’ll learn a variety of in-demand skills and knowledge, including:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Phlebotomy and EKG
  • Electronic Health Records and Medical Insurance Billing and Coding
  • Infection control, sterilization and pharmacology
  • Aiding in diagnostics and minor surgical procedures
  • Patient care and communication
  • Scheduling, bookkeeping and other administrative tasks

The Clinical Medical Assisting diploma program prepares students for multiple professional certifications:

Medical Assisting Certifications

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Medical Technologists (AMT) upon completion of additional requirements
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

EKG Certification

  • Certified EKG Technician (NCET) through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Phlebotomy Certification

  • National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Career Outlook

Medical Assistants play a vital role in the health care field today. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (B.L.S.), medical assistant employment is expected to grow by 15% from 2023–2033. 1 A career as a medical assistant provides incredible variety and a chance to make a real difference in the lives of others. Answering patient questions about administering medication, collecting lab specimens, inputting basic medical billing and software information, understanding medical insurance coding are some of the important tasks required of medical assistants in doctors’ offices, hospitals, and clinics. MCC’s Certificate program in Medical Assisting can equip you with the skills you need to make your desire and dreams a reality.

Clinical Externship

The Clinical Medical Assistant Program includes a 165-hour externship at an MCC-affiliated clinical site. This externship will provide you with a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in a real-life patient-care experience. Proving invaluable experience for students in their transition from an academic setting into the work environment, it will help you start your career with confidence.

Established in 2004, MCC has four locations in Illinois: two campuses in downtown Chicago, one in Naperville, and one in Evergreen Park.
