MCC's MRI Degree Program

Become an MRI Technologist

Learn the skills you need to start a career in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology at Midwestern Career College’s Columbus location. Our Associate of Applied Science program can prepare you with the general education, applied knowledge, technical skills and work habits you need to get started in this vital field.

What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technology?

MRIs use magnetic fields, radio waves and a computer to provide doctors and other healthcare professionals with a detailed picture of internal body structures, including bones, organs and soft tissues. It is the MRI technologist’s job to work with radiologists to ensure these are the best images possible, aiding in disease and injury diagnosis.

What do MRI Technologists do?

MRI techs perform an important duty in assessing and diagnosing diseases and injuries. Duties may include:

  • Operating MRI scanners
  • Monitoring patient safety and comfort
  • Ensuring quality images are generated
  • Intravenously administering gadolinium contrast dosages
  • Interviewing patients, explaining MRI procedures and positioning patients on examining tables
  • Entering computer data like patient history, anatomical area scanned, specified orientation and position of entry

AAS in MRI Curriculum
